When David Butts expressed that thought, he was talking not about current events, but about prayer and revival. However, the more I observe Christians in today’s churches, the more I think it applies equally to their gross ignorance of the times.
What is going on in today’s world is unlike anything we have ever experienced. For a macro understanding, you might start with secular author and futurist Alvin Toffler, who wrote Future Shock (1970) and Powershift (1990). Toffler’s The Third Wave (1980) points out what should be blatantly obvious, but isn’t, that up until roughly the American Revolution the world lived in an agrarian society: the first wave. The second wave was the Industrial Revolution (machines, factories, and trains). The third wave is the post-Industrial Age (telecommunications, technology). 
Satellites, computers, and now Google Glass allow for electronic surveillance and, ultimately, the electronic concentration camp. Nowadays people can run, but they cannot hide because they are constantly being monitored and observed.
Most Christians in American churches (educated and uneducated) lead such sheltered lives they don’t know what is going on the world. Almost completely out of touch, they act as if tomorrow were just another day, as if this year and next year will be just another year, as if they will see their children grow up, marry, and have children … a hundred years from now what will it matter? … as if politics were still just Left and Right, this election the Democrats, next election the Republicans, and they more or less ignore the whole thing because it doesn’t immediately touch their lives … as if they can save for the future, if they’re lucky, and live to enjoy a happy retirement a few decades down the road … as if economics were as simple as whether or not they have a good job, the children have good schools, the house is in the right neighborhood, and the car is new enough to require little maintenance …. In other words, all things continue as they were, and Jesus’ coming is nowhere is sight (2 Peter 3:4). They have no idea that “soon and very soon” the world could undergo massive change, and their whole “shelter” could collapse.
What the average citizen doesn’t grasp is that the Communists (“Socialists”) have taken over. They have infiltrated our ruling bodies and institutions and are controlling our courts, our churches, our laws, our schools, and our finances. It’s not the Communist ACLU attorney you have to worry about: it’s the Communist judge. It’s not the Liberal feminist Congresswoman you have to worry about: it’s the bona fide member of the Socialist Party. During the Cold War, and beyond, “every important branch of the American government, from the White House itself to the State Department, the Defense Department, the Justice Department, the Treasury Department, the Office of Strategic Services (predecessor to the CIA), and the Office of War Information, to name only a few, was infested with Communists busily doing the work of the Soviet Union” (William A Rusher). One “former” KGB agent confidently asserted that Communists are so entrenched in places of leadership that we could never get rid of them all. So, short of naked resistance (civil disobedience), there is not much we can do but go along with them.
The Socialists’ earliest usurpation was education, starting with the earliest education: the public school system. Almost all unions are Socialist. Among the worst still in existence (some have fallen by the wayside) is the behemoth NEA-AFT, the American schoolteachers union. This union decides what goes on in the public schools. It is currently responsible for such nasties as Common Core (Communist propaganda, written and implemented by Communists), revisionist history, lying textbooks, and premature sex education (for very young children). Its financial support is so strong that the NEA-AFT almost underwrites the Socialist-controlled Democratic Party.
But that is not all. Communists have also taken over our public and private colleges and universities. Communists serve on the faculty and staff of America’s big and small post-secondary institutions, deciding what is to be taught, how it is to be taught, and what students are to think. In short, Communists teach American schoolteachers. Their careful indoctrination (to change the face of reality) is the fount of not only political correctness (cultural Marxism) but seemingly benign innovations in various disciplines.
A long-time working goal of the Communists has been to do away with God, and Christianity, in American life. Communists (“atheists”) are behind the many and various anti-God lawsuits and court decisions, from banning prayer and Bible reading in the public school (1963) to scrubbing the very mention of God from government buildings.
The Soviet Union (USSR) was the first nation in the world to have as its ideological objective the elimination of religion. Vladimir Lenin early observed, “We must combat religion.” The 6th World Congress of the Communist International (1929) put it in their platform: “One of the most important tasks of the cultural revolution affecting the wide masses is the task of systematically and unswervingly combating religion—the opium of the people.” Joseph Stalin made it a goal (1928): “God must be out of Russia in five years.”
The Communists, following through, confiscated church property, ridiculed religious behavior, harassed believers, and openly propagated atheism. Their main target was the Russian Orthodox Church. Nearly its entire clergy and many believers were executed or sent to gulags. Theological schools were closed. Religious publications were prohibited. Only about 1 percent or 500 out of 50,000 churches survived. Revisionist history condemned religion. The Russian Encyclopedia (1950) said that God was a myth and that Communism was incompatible with belief in God. Any printed materials not espousing the same view were deemed politically incorrect and, consequently, removed. Any person not in agreement was persecuted and prosecuted and declared an enemy of the state. Thus, the State destroyed faith and freedom through fear.
In their long-time quest for a godless USA, Communists, for decades, have infiltrated our Christian churches, hiding their agents in pew and pulpit, on church councils and boards, in Bible colleges and seminaries. Now Communists openly want to choose the pastors. “We don’t want to take away your religion,” they say, “we just want to make it fun.” They will allow the church to exist as long as they can control it.
Again, in their quest for a godless USA, for years Communists have been removing books, particularly science books, written about Christian scientists, from our school and public libraries. Working from a list, agents simply go in, lift certain books surreptitiously, and walk out the door. The stolen book may never be missed; and if missed, simply reported as lost and never replaced. Socialists don’t want us to know that before Communists or Communist-trained professionals began writing our textbooks, most scientists believed in God and wrote from a Christian perspective.
And, of course, the primary book they want removed from every institution, every library, and every home—if they could—is the Bible. They encourage Christian leaders to push the social gospel and to discredit Fundamentalism. Their two biggest sore spots are the Old Testament, because it is a monument to the Jews, and the prophecy of the Endtimes, because it reveals Jesus Christ as the conquering King, tearing down the kingdoms of this world (Daniel 2:44, 45; Revelation 11:15).
Continuing with this same agenda (getting God out of American life), Communists have pushed godless evolution over biblical creationism. They have pushed so hard that they have almost succeeded in making Darwin god. Many Christians have been fooled by the rhetoric or backed down, assuming evolution was “scientifically” correct. No. Godless Darwinian evolution is not science. It is simply the Communist agenda.
Not long after Darwin published his Origin of the Species (1859), Friedrich Engels wrote to Marx, saying, “Darwin, whom I am just now reading, is splendid.”
Marx responded that “Darwin’s book is very important and serves me as a basis in natural science for the class struggle in history.” Marx even wanted to dedicate his book Das Kapital to Darwin.
Lenin concurred because “Darwin put an end to the belief that animal and vegetable species … were created by God.”
Biblical creationism was, and is, true. “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth” (Genesis 1:1). The earth has been here about six thousand years. That is all. The talk about millions of years (time)—evolution doesn’t work without time—is the lie of godless Darwinian evolution, promoted by godless Communists, in their drive for global conquest. Whatever the source—classroom courses, “scientific” textbooks, societies (National Science Foundation, National Academy of Sciences), and publications (National Geographic, Smithsonian)—if it teaches and promotes evolution, you know it has been taken over by Communists.
Another Communist tactic has been Marxist class struggle: pitting one group against another or radicalizing America. One of their earliest ploys was the “liberation” of the Negro; hence, the fight for civil rights. Another, feminism. The fight for equal rights. Still another, the homosexual agenda and oxymoronic homosexual “marriage”. Harry Hay, founder of the modern “gay rights” movement, was a Communist and a vocal supporter of pedophilia.
The ordinary man on the street is not interested in these things; but highlighted by the Marxists, these “issues” become talking points and poking points on the evening news, in the daily newspaper, and in the office breakroom. And almost everyone has an opinion. Some persons, easily influenced, fall into the Marxist web and believe the lie (cf 2 Thessalonians 2:11, 12).
Along these same lines have come demoralization: divorce and remarriage, pornography, rock music, the erasing of sexual taboos, earlier and earlier sexual activity with multiple partners, leading to unwanted pregnancy and the practice of abortion. “Former” KGB agent Yuri Bezmenov was pleased (1984) that the demoralization of this country had occurred much faster and easier than the Party had planned. “Previously not even Comrade Andropov and all his experts would even dream of such tremendous success.”
Following a long period of brainwashing and indoctrination, which has already occurred in America, the Communist way is to bring about a short period of destabilization (lasting two to five years). Then a crisis or violent overthrow (lasting about six weeks). Ultimately, the Socialists want another American revolution. Revolution is the way the Communists took Russia, China, Cuba, and nations in Central America, South America, Asia, and Africa.

Aiming at revolution, Socialists drive the masses into poverty and make them dependent on government, through government handouts and housing, welfare and food stamps, because poor people (government-dependent people) are easier to control. They also create inflation so no one can afford anything even if he has money, and they run up the national debt till the economy collapses.
Socialists also want gun control, so that when they do take over, no one can fight back. It is highly probable that even now KGB agents occupy leading roles in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). At the Pentagon admirals, generals, and other high-ranking officers are being purged from the military.

So, you see, the groundwork has already been laid for a dictatorship and a police state. Even the creation of FEMA camps. At its height the Nazi Socialists had over twenty thousand concentration camps. Russia is known for its Siberian gulags; and China, for its labor camps (laogai). Amerika will be no different.
But of all the things that Comrade Obama has done to make America a worse place than he found it, the worst is the Affordable Care Act (ACA), aka ObamaCare. Why? Because “Socialized medicine is keystone to the establishment of a Socialist state” (Dr Ben Carson). ObamaCare is more than universal healthcare, which, like all forms of Socialism, has been a colossal worldwide failure—if you want to know how national healthcare might look, check out the VA hospital. So, it is almost comical to hear about ordinary citizens trying to get through the phone lines and websites so they can sign up for health insurance. ObamaCare is not about health insurance. It is about control. “Control healthcare and you control the people” (Saul Alinsky). It is a “law” that usurps the power of Congress and puts all authority solely in the hands of the President and a fifteen-member Independent Payment Advisory Board, thus creating a dictatorship.

It is also comical to hear about ordinary citizens thinking to “kick the rascals” out in 2014 and 2016 and put in a new Congress. At this stage neither Congress nor citizens have any power. And they will have even less after ObamaCare is implemented because the ObamaCare Board will be in control. Neither Congress nor citizens can “legally” challenge the Board in a court of law—as if the Socialist courts would do anything—because the decisions of the Board are not “judicially reviewable.”
And, yes, ObamaCare does mandate universal “chipping.” All Americans will be implanted with RFID. 
Walmart pharmacies, for instance, have replaced their pulse and blood pressure machines with new kiosks where you can sign up for ObamaCare and scan your hand under a barcode/RFID reader. The mark of the beast is here.
